About

Hi, my name is Laurel Brunsink

I'm 26 years old, I have 4 siblings, and 2 border collies; I went to Calvin University where I studied writing and film & media, and I am a former pastor's kid. In the past year, God has pulled together a lot of different pieces to lead me into fulltime missions. For the next two years, I'll be living on board a medical ship in Papua New Guinea.

Serving in Papua New Guinea

1

Why Go?

84% of the population in PNG live in rural areas and villages located in mountains, jungles, rivers, and along the coast. These beautiful landscapes can make it extremely difficult to receive adequate healthcare. Many of the people who live in these remote locations have also never heard of the gospel.

My Ministry Organization - YWAM

The ministry organization I am working with, YWAM Ships, has pioneered an innovative solution to the medical and spiritual needs in Papua New Guinea by sending medically equipped ships to reach isolated islands and remote shoreline villages through healthcare and the gospel of Jesus.

(This link opens a new window to the general YWAM website. It is not specific to me, but gives more details about the medical mercy ship I am serving on.)

My Role and Heart

I will use my passion for storytelling to tell the stories of how God is touching people's lives in Papua New Guinea. I will help the communications team develop materials. Both in print and digitally, to capture the stories of people's encounters with God's kingdom and how that is impacting their lives, communities and families. Ultimately, my deepest desire is to grow in my personal relationship with God, to share the love of Jesus and hope of the Gospel with those I meet, and to tell stories that 1) tell of God, 2) bring Him glory, 3) bring more workers to the harvest (Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 9, "The harvest is plenty, but the workers are few.")
